Norwich senzala
The groups was founded in September 2001 by Rod Penn (Medusa). After spending a year abroad in Tokyo where he trained Capoeira intensely, he came back to the UK to finish his degree at the UEA. And went to regular classes in Cambridge with the group Senzala Anglia. He then went on to start the group in Norwich, teaching students at the UEA and later, members of the public in the Norwich area.
The group grew into quite a large class over the next couple of years, all of the classes were now shared by Rod Penn or Jamie Lynch who now trains under Cordão de Ouro. The classes stayed like this for a few years until some of the other students were ready to teach and the group became more of a committee.
Nowadays the group is run by the member of the group itself, we all discuss the decisions that need to be made and make them between ourselves. There are roughly six instructors that take the classes in Norwich these days, keeping them new, interesting and exciting for all of the members.
